New Twitter Rules: No Copying

Twitter have announced sweeping rule changes to their API and how developers may interact with. Today Twitter tried to clarify the confusion which surrounded the announcement. The key point being that all 3rd party apps will be limited to no more than 100,000 users, what exactly happens after this limit is reached has yet to be found out.

The reasoning behind this new rule change is somewhat unclear, on the surface it would appear that Twitter is trying to limit competition for their own services and increase inovation. Forcing developers to be different by imposing rules seems a bizarre approach, especially so when you consider one of the original pillars in twitters foothold on the social media scene was it’s open nature and API support.
