October’s Deep and Personal is with SEO Account Manager Laura…

1. Why did you joined Atelier?
I’ve known of Atelier for some years now as a leading agency in the area and I’d seen the high quality of work the studio produce. Knowing how passionate everyone is about the work they do here really left an impression on me when I first got involved.

2. What’s your role here?
I’m an SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) & PPC (Pay Per Click) Account Manager. Many people shut down and wish they hadn’t asked when you say that, usually because they don’t know what it means.

SEO is the modification of a website to help improve it’s ranking on Google and other search engines. We use a wide range of strategies to achieve this such as altering code and tags, writing optimised content, social media…are you still awake? Good. It’s actually really interesting as Google love to move the goal posts when you’re not looking, so every day brings a new challenge! Pay Per Click is internet advertising. You know when you perform a search online and all these little relevant adverts appear? That’s an example of pay per click.

3. If you could trade places with any other person for a week, famous or not famous, living or dead, real or fictional. with whom would it be?
That’s a tough one…I’ll take Vivienne Westwood. She was 30 before she started doing what she loved (same as me), taking a leap by leaving her job as a teacher and opening her first shop. I love her style and she’s influenced so many designers. She’s a little crazy, and has dressed everyone from the Sex Pistols to Margaret Thatcher, and her shoes made Naomi Campbell fall over in Paris. Personally I think she’s a bit of a British icon and looks like so much fun! Sorry if you were hoping for Marie Curie or something…

4. What’s your best achievement to date?
Running my own pub. Not as easy as people think!

5. What’s it like working at Atelier?
I really enjoy working with the clients we have, they’re all very different so a day here is never dull. Things change all the time in SEO so it’s a constant learning curve which is great, I get bored easily! Each campaign is tailored to their particular specialism and requirements, so no two are ever the same. As an example this week I have written articles about dressage, snow, Socrates, boarding schools, Russia and kettlebells! There’s a great team here too, I really think it’s beneficial to have SEO, design and development all under one roof as we all need each other’s skills and advice from time to time. Being in one office speeds things up which benefits the client.

6. Please attach a feature photo and explain why it’s so important to you.
I love this photo. It was taken on my second trip to Koh Tao, an island a day’s journey south of Bangkok. It’s my happy place, which I shared with the best friends a girl could have.

7. If I take a look inside your refrigerator what would I find?
Not a lot at the moment, I’m on the Cambridge Diet. Probably some chicken breasts, spinach, tonic water, and a large variety of chilli sauces.

8. Tell us an interesting fact that none of us know about?
I left my Criminology degree to train to be a car mechanic.

9. What will you do if you have a time machine?
Travel back to 1996 and invest in Google when Brin and Page were still operating out of a garage. After that I would use it as a wardrobe. What you change in the past changes the future, I could cause untold devastation!… Back To The Future anyone?

10. What’s your top tip in life?
Never let anyone tell you you can’t. You can, and if you really really try, you will.

11. What’s your favourite sandwich?
Ooo tricky! Steak and blue cheese with loads of salad on a soft brown baguette. Or a burger from the Cricketers.
